The Jaguar E-Type Low-Drag Coupe is Beautifully Engineered
If the Jaguar E-type is widely considered to be the most beautiful car ever, what is the the coolest version of the E-type? The Lightweight Low-Drag Coupe.
This lightweight version was built to keep up with racing rivals like the Ferrari 250 GT(O), Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato and Shelby Cobra, which all used featherlight aluminium bodies. Jaguar replaced the standard steel body with an all aluminum body to decrease the weight while still keeping their powerful 3.8L 6 Cylinder engine with one little twist. They did not pack in the standard E-Type motor but used the design with the wide angle cylinders they used on the racing circuit.
The E-Type Jaguar was already one of the world’s most exciting sports coupes and racing machines. This special edition Low Drag Coupe was stripped of most interior trim and even the majority of the glass was replaced with arcrylic glass to make the car lighter and safer.
Air ducts were added in strategic locations on the car. The car never went into production since it only marginally improved overall performance, but the added design elements and one of a kind design have made it one of the most prized collector cars in the world.
